\\ KM02
KM02 is a low-cost housing prototype developed for high density suburbs in southern Africa. In these areas allocated parcels of land are small and narrow; however many cannot afford to occupy the full extents of these plots given the harsh economic challenges facing the region. This typology was developed to be flexible enough to accomodate one large or two small families, groups of sharers or individuals; each with access to private, semi-private and communal spaces and facilities. The design intent was to develop an aspirational product at a higher benchmark than existing accomodation, but at the same price point.
It was also designed to only use building materials that were produced and manufactured in the same town, both supporting the local economy and improving its carbon footprint. The few exceptions include the solar panels (it is entirely off grid); the roof insulation, and a few electrical fittings. If you would like more information, please contact us here
